My Personality Is The B-Sides Of Your Favorite Album

Jay-Z recently announced he’s re-opening New York’s Webster Hall, after newly completed renovations to bring out his “B-Sides Concert”. Here, he will perform songs he’s rarely or almost never performed onstage for a crowd. I, unfortunately will not be able to go. This past week he held that concert for packed house, and showed out crowd. He even had Nas come out for his show.

This is not about me debating what is a B-Side hit of Jay-Z you’d want to hear. Neither is this about which artists in 2019 have B-Sides records anyone pretends to want to hear anymore.

This is about B-Side records in general and how they relate to personalities. More specifically, how I’ve grown up living a life reflective of a B-Side record.

I’m so thankful most of my favorite songs are B-Side tracks.

For those that don’t B-Side used to be what records put on the other side of the vinyl. The A-Side had the hit or single that the artist and label were pushing the most. The B-Side used to be another loose single not as important or an instrumental of the A-side hit. Record companies used this method for a while.

In current practice, when we refer to B-Side we are talking about the songs on the album that the artist won’t normally do at a live show, or tend to be less catchy and not…
